The DCT Area

The Deptford Challenge Trust area was defined in the 1990s by the City Challenge regeneration programme. Over time, the area has changed, however the need to maintain this focus remains. There is huge diversity amongst its community – for example with new and more established migrant communities, with residents who have been here for generations and those who are newly arrived, with the mobility of the student community and those who choose to stay after their studies – the social mix of the area is something that the Trust celebrates. The changes to the local area, with numerous developments taking place, are increasing the diversity of this community, but at the same time making the gap more apparent for some. There is a high level of deprivation across the area, including high rates of unemployment, poor health and low educational attainment amongst children and young people. The Trust aims to help the most disadvantaged members of the community, especially those who are not currently being supported.
